the complicated evolution of kim jaehyun
there are very few things that still scare jaehyun. it's really hard to get wrapped up in things like fears when everything you'd ever imagined has kind of already happened to you? and he tends just not to feel things like that anymore. he's strong--unbelievably so, so death is out of the question. afraid of losing people? sure, but he's lost so many already, it isn't difficult to let go and move on when he has to.
there is one thing that still terrifies and always will terrifying him though, and that's the thought of kim jaehyun losing kim jaehyun.
he's got a hell of an identity crisis riding on his shoulders, and he operates as two separate entities. there's kim jaehyun, the same way he's always been for 1,000 years: excitable, enthusiastic, sociable, total yap trap. then there's kim jaehyun, the vampire king. communicating bluntly, not getting emotionally involved, not getting close. with the mask on, he's the vampire king, expected to make quick and brutal decisions without batting an eye.
without it, he's jaehyun, and he'll still lock himself in his warehouse to cry when one of his vampires kills someone innocent.
jaehyun is deathly afraid of losing the things that makes him jaehyun, and he's afraid of slipping into being nobody but the vampire king for the rest of his afterlife. the vampire king was the person who took over jaehyun after his changing and slaughtered hundreds of people for hundreds of years, and jaehyun was the boy behind that, with the guilt and the intense desire to do nothing but protect and help people.
he's an incredibly delicate balance of the two now, still clinging desperately to being jaehyun to keep at least a little of his humanity intact, but shoving jaehyun to the side whenever the vampire king is needed over him.
after taeyeol is brought down the first time, 'jaehyun' is somebody that gets thrown a little to the wayside, and the vampire king is the only person left in there. sure, he forces the 'jaehyun' out of himself to keep people at ease with him, but he's never quite the same jaehyun as he was, and he's always on edge.
this is part of the reason he hates taeyeol so much, because he's very set on keeping the vampire king and jaehyun separate, but taeyeol forces them into the same person, and he absolutely hates that. he hates that taeyeol forces 'jaehyun' to do horrific things, and he hates that the vampire king isn't strong enough to do anything about it.

a little about vampire anatomy
if you sever the spine or decapitate them, they won't regen as quickly. it'll be a bit of a snail's pace while the head tries to work out what happened and what it needs to do in order to get back in one piece.
they can enter a residence without an invite, but it's incredibly painful, and if they stay inside they'll bleed out and die. no regen.
they can be awake during the day, but it's very painful, and they can't be outdoors. like when entering a house without being invited, they start to bleed from ears, nose, eyes, mouth, anywhere. it isn't fatal, but it's horrible, and leaves them very messy.
going into the sun is fatal. there's something about it that makes vamps organs remember they're actually dead, and they begin an incredibly rapid decay when exposed to sunlight.
they're cold, unless they've eaten from someone alive very recently. drinking warm blood warms their organs, and it's pretty important when you're meeting with people who are suspicious of freezing corpse people.
